It was a perfect winter’s day here in Aberystwyth. We awoke to a crisp frost which melted away to a glorious sunny day but still with that cold, bracing winter chill in the air.

Down in the harbour the tide was high and the water looked dazzling in the morning light, creating beautiful reflections across the surface.

The swan family were drifting around serenely in the sunshine, accompanied as usual by the lone goose. After witnessing increasing hostility from the swan parents towards the youngster in recent days, today all was calm once more.

Whilst still sticking close to the parents it is clear that the young swan is maturing and beginning it’s transformation into a graceful, white adult. Along with the increasing white plumage there is also a splash of colour appearing on the once slate grey beak.
